UnCaged Toy Piano: Floating Verses, Music-Box Making Workshop

UnCaged Toy Piano: Floating Verses is a music-box making workshop led by composer and sound artist Phyllis Chen. Participants will design and create their own music box strips, contributing to an evolving global sound installation that connects communities across the world.

Throughout the workshop, Phyllis will share demonstrations and perform original works for toy piano and music box, creating an immersive and interactive experience.

No prior experience is necessary. All are welcome.

Phyllis Chen is a composer, pianist, and sound artist whose work has been described by The New York Times as “meticulously whimsical” and “spellbinding.” A 2022 Guggenheim Fellow and SUNY New Paltz professor, she has performed internationally at venues including Lincoln Center, the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, and the Baryshnikov Arts Center.

She is the founder of UnCaged Toy Piano, a festival dedicated to new music for toy piano and unconventional instruments.
